secure attachment

anattachment bond between the mother (or primary caregiver)and infant, whereby the mother is sensitive and responsiveto the childs needs, who will not experience significantdistress at separation from the caregiver, but who seekcomfort from caregiver when frightened. Secureattachment is related to healthy subsequent cognitive and emotional development as adults, including high self-esteem and the ability to maintain loving, trusting relationships.
