problems in living

problems in living

concrete problems with which patients with chronic mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia) frequently struggle (e.g., inability to keep a job or a place of residence), which are believed to be the most useful focus of treatment after symptoms stabilize with medication. Problems in living are often addressed in day treatment or in aftercare following hospitalization. See psychosocial rehabilitation. [proposed by Hungarian-born U.S. psychiatrist Thomas S. Szasz (1920–2012)]
